The Golf Club at La Quinta (La Quinta, CA on 05/28/12)

I played here on 05/28/12 from the black tees (72.7/127/6856) and enjoyed my round. The course’s claim to fame is that it hosted the PGA Tour Skins games for multiple years. I am not quite sure why as there was nothing flashy about the course. The course is a community course and winds through a development and, while the homes are set far enough back from the course for the average golfer, they do distract some from the course. That aside, the course was in excellent shape, friendly for the average golfer, and fair. A couple of the other higher quality courses that I played on my trip had some burnt out spots but this course did not which was amazing considering I only paid $40 on a holiday morning. The course has large and reasonably flat greens, water hazards in play only with a really bad shot, and short rough. All these things made it a course where someone could put up a good number if they were playing well. Like most courses in the Coachella Valley, the views of the local mountains were good. I wish the course had a couple more shorter par 4s, but that request is not too material because it was a quality layout and an awesome value. My favorite hole is #17 which is a 187 par 3 that is all carry over a lake. Some holes had a resort feel to me (#6, #9, #13, #17, and #18) with the water features and domestic desert landscaping.
