Because I breezed around so quickly at Lake Chesdin, I had time for another nine somewhere. Driving an hour and a half for only one round always makes me feel a bit wasteful, so I was glad to see that Oasis Park would let someone go play until 7pm. That fit in perfectly with my afternoon!
I knew this place existed, but that is about it! Thankfully, it was only a couple miles out of the way and I figured it would be a convenient course to add to my list. I got there and found only a couple cars in the parking lot. Have I mentioned I love golfing during the week?!
I paid my $13 to walk and got started on this par-3 course. There are other activities here including a nice looking driving range, putting green and some batting cages. It seems like a smaller scale version of Windy Hill Sports Complex to me. Like usual, I was only here for the course though. And, what a fun time I had!
The complex is set along a main road in the trees. There is a tiny bit of elevation change but it is a course that someone in even average health could walk. Oasis Park turned out to be a great little walk! I always seem to play better golf when I walk and an added benefit is some exercise. But, if you need a cart they are available. The holes are spaced just perfectly to minimize the walk between greens and tees and hopefully you won’t have to wear your hard hat.
Like many of the nine hole courses that I’ve played recently, Oasis Park is more about the experience than the shots you need to hit. It is a place to enjoy the outdoors, enjoy your family or show a beginner the game. Heck, I played in about an hour so it could be a spot to go to break up a bad workday!
The design of Oasis Park is fairly simple, as you’d likely expect. The holes aren’t memorable, but you’ll get to work on your distance control and short game if you play here because of the small greens. Even from the blue tees there are quite a few short holes. The distances range from 84 yards to 192 yards, but I hit mostly 8 irons through wedges. I hit my lob three times, however I played it to go three different distances.
Probably the most memorable hole at Oasis Park is going to be the 135 yard 4th. It plays over water to a green that slopes from right to left. The 9th has the most interesting green, which is shaped like an hourglass and has a lower, back tier.
The conditions were well worth the price. The tees seem to take a beating (no real surprise), however they were playable. The greens were full but furry, so I had to hit putts with some force. Once they get a mow they should roll fine. I missed three greens and had a mix of good and thin lies in the rough.
Oasis Park is one of those no pressure courses that oozes of fun. With as much golf as I’ve played nearby I wish I would have stopped by sooner!
