The Bridges at Beresford Golf Course (Beresford, SD on 07/24/22)

I finished up my long weekend of golf with a round at The Bridges at Beresford Golf Course. After my round at The Ridge in the morning I started making my way back towards South Dakota and found The Bridges along the way.

The Bridges is a nine-hole course in the town of Breseford, about halfway between Sioux City and Sioux Falls. I booked a twilight time for $17 to walk. What’s funny is that when I booked my tee time I actually thought there were eighteen holes here. When I tried to find the 10th hole and couldn’t, then it hit me. First time that has happened to me!

Even without the additional nine, The Bridges turned out to be another fun short course in this part of the country. It seems that with each trip I take to the Northern Plains/Midwest I become more impressed with the golf.

Tall grass lining the bunkers is a great quality here.

The Bridges is in the middle of town, near a creek. Homes line the perimeter holes but shouldn’t come into play with the way the holes are routed. I guess I’d say the course has a prairie and parkland feel to it. This time of year, the yellow tall grass adds that contrast against the green turf. Trees protect the holes near the creek.

The course plays 3,369 yards from the black tees as a par-36. So, it is full-size when it comes to the distance. The par-4’s all play between 372 and 413 yards while one of the par-5’s is 547 yards. I wouldn’t have minded a driveable par-4 mixed in somewhere.

The par-3 7th, which goes over a hazard.

My favorite holes were the 5th and the 7th. The 5th is a reachable par-5 that slides to the right. If the tee shot hugs the right side – close to two bunkers – then that makes for a shorter shot to the green. The 7th is a 175 yard par-3 with a wetlands area that needs to be carried to get to the green. The green complex is mounded which gives the hole a good look.

The conditions were pretty decent too. The fairways provided enough cushion for iron shots and had plenty of color. The greens were mostly smooth and fast.

If you find yourself along I-29 with the clubs and don’t mind nine-hole courses I’d recommend a round at The Bridges. The only issue might be the playability, which lacks on a couple holes. Still, I think it is worth a visit under the right circumstances.
