Champions Pointe Golf Club (Henryville, IN on 04/20/25)

After a quick morning round at Covered Bridge Golf Club, I went for round two at Champions Pointe Golf Club. Champions Pointe is the other Fuzzy Zoeller/Clyde Johnston course in Southern Indiana.

I know I complained about the conditions/price in my Covered Bridge review. Thankfully, things were better at Champions Pointe. It was a gloomy afternoon so my pictures might not reflect it, but the conditions here were very nice for late April. The $90 green fee was still steep, but the sting wasn’t as bad as it was at Champions Pointe.

Most sections of the fairways at Champions Pointe were in good shape and playable. I believe the fairways are zoysia and while they still have a slight yellow color to them, the ball sat fine. The tees are still mostly dormant. The greens were slow but smooth. The rough was tall, thick, and quite the challenge to play from.

The par-4 8th has trouble lurking.

I played the fuzzy/white combo tees which are 73.0/139/6809. I’d say the toughest element of the course is its length and a quirky finishing hole. The course sits on a nice piece of property – which I think is Champions Pointe’s best feature. The course plays across rolling hills and farmland. There is some minor elevation change and I’m sure the course would present very well visually a sunny day.

Overall, I thought the design at Champions Pointe reflected Covered Bridge. And, I don’t really mean that in a great way. The overall yardage and the yardages of the individual holes are very similar to Covered Bridge – not much variation. For example, I hit the same club on three of the four par-3’s. The course could certainly benefit from a short par-3 and/or short par-4.

The 17th is an interesting downhill par-4.

The back nine has some pretty solid holes, except for the closing hole. The 10th is a cool-looking par-4 with water to the left. It plays slightly downhill and the fairway snakes it’s way up to the green. The 15th is a fun downhill par-3 and the 17th is a fun downhill par-4.

Unfortunately, the 18th is a head scratching par-4. It plays 451 yards and was into the wind when I played. There is water to the left then you’ll need a long carry to get close to the green in two. If that doesn’t work then the other option is a layup to the right – still going over water. Weird. It would have been a much better shorter hole if the green was put where the layup area is located.

I thought Champions Pointe was a decent course. Something I didn’t care for were all the homes along the course. Homes line most/all the holes and the homes seemed to take something away from the experience. I’m not sure Champions Pointe is a $90 course this time of year, but it has enough interesting elements to make it worth a look when in Louisville.
