After finishing up on Red Fox I was able to get back out right away and play Gray Fox. I didn’t completely luck out with the weather this time around though. During the middle of the round a rain shower blew through and brought gusty winds – I hit driver on a 212 yard par-3 and still came up way short, crazy!
I walked both rounds and if you decide to walk Gray Fox then be prepared for a much longer walk. While Gray Fox is longer than Red Fox on the scorecard (1,842 yards compared to 1,566 yards) you’ll mostly feel the extra walking distance between holes. Gray Fox is also a par-28. There are some healthy hikes between holes so I wouldn’t walk Gray Fox unless you are in good health.

Much like Red Fox, Gray Fox is in a natural area. In fact, the 1st, 2nd, 8th and 9th holes are in a wooded area – something very different for golf at The Villages! No doubt these are the best holes on the course and I’m sure you will enjoy playing them. The 3rd through 7th are out in the open, close to where some homes are being built and are much less interesting in my opinion.
The 2nd, at 171 yards, was my favorite hole on Gray Fox because of its wooded scenery. The 2nd reminded me of a hole you’d find in the Mid-Atlantic! From the tee much of the green’s surface cannot be seen so that made it tricky picking a club. Come to find out the green is large, wide and slopes hard from right to left.
As expected, conditions on Gray Fox were very good. Both Red and Gray Fox are a nice twist to golf at The Villages and I enjoyed both of them! I’d give the edge to Red Fox only because I preferred the shorter holes and the easier walk.
