The Villages Executive Golf: Truman Course (The Villages, FL on 02/10/19)

After I buzzed around the Roosevelt course in about an hour I circled back to the proshop and inquired about playing the Truman course. As you’d expect on a dreary afternoon getting in an extra nine holes wasn’t any trouble!

I didn’t see any other golfers out playing the courses, except a twosome playing Truman’s 4th hole, while I was on the 8th! That was surprising because the weather got worse for my round on Truman, compared to my earlier nine on Roosevelt. Those were some dedicated golfers, as they were out walking! I had a covered cart and still got soaked!

Truman is the sister course to Roosevelt and as I mentioned in that post the Roosevelt course starts out at a high point and drops down to a low area. The Truman course is on the other side of the proshop and has a similar feel to it.

The 2nd and 3rd holes play downhill and then the rest of the course has some gentle elevation change. Like Roosevelt, the strongest feature about Truman is the terrain. There is a nice mix of uphill and downhill shots, with a couple sweet-looking par-3’s! Also like Roosevelt, most of the holes on Truman are par-3’s. It is a par-28 with just one par-4.

The downhill par-3 2nd

The 161 yard par-3 2nd is one of those pretty par-3’s! It plays at least a club downhill to a green that is framed by bunkers. The green is quite small and requires getting the distance and contact just right for a birdie putt. If you err to the left, trying to avoid the bunkers, then the green falls off severely. I ended up over there and had to try to bounce a low pitch shot up a steep slope!

The par-3 8th is another scenic hole on Truman. It plays over a pond and has two large oak trees that add some character to the hole. A couple bunkers dot the green complex as well.

I thought Truman was another decent little course and enjoyed my round here, even on a less-than-ideal weather day! However, I could see how the course could be tougher for those golfers who don’t carry the ball a decent distance.
