Westdale Hills Golf Course (Euless, TX on 08/11/19)

After golfing at Cleburne Golf Links I took a different route back home so that I could check out a nine hole course. I headed north through Fort Worth and then east towards Dallas. And, along the way I found Westdale Hills Golf Course.

The course is in Euless, which is better known for (at least in respect to golf) the nearby Texas Star Golf Course. Texas Star is one of the top public courses in the state and one that I’m hoping to get to sometime!

Westdale Hills is located in an apartment complex and I had some trouble finding the proshop. Come to find out I drove right past the proshop and ended up parking in an overflow lot, between two apartment buildings! I finally found out where I needed to pay my money ($13) and then walked back to the 1st tee, close to where I parked. It can be a bit tricky for those who are challenged with directions, like me.

In case it matters to you it seems that Westdale Hills is a walking only course. I didn’t see any power carts but there were some pull carts to rent. I carried my bag and enjoyed the walk, but if you are looking to golf with someone who isn’t very mobile then this might not be the best spot.

A look from one of the tee boxes on the 3rd at Westdale Hills.

On the front of the scorecard it advertises Westdale Hills as the “#1 Par Three in Texas”. I’m sure the fact that Ben Crenshaw designed the course has something to do with that claim! I haven’t played enough short courses in Texas to know if it is the best par-3 course or not, but I was impressed with Westdale Hills.

The course works its way between the apartment buildings, which are perched up on higher ground. The course plays between the buildings and what look like some drainage areas. That resulted in nice elevation changes. There are plenty of mature trees which add to the course’s look and offered some shade. The routing felt a tiny bit like a canyon course that you might in Northern or Southern California.

With all par-3’s Westdale Hills is a par-27 and tops out at 1,365 yards from the black tees. The yardages range from 121 to 181 yards so I mixed up the clubs I hit. The 4th is the 181 yard par-3 and played about a club uphill to a tiny green – I was very happy with my two putt par there!

My favorite hole was the 137 yard 3rd as it has a few different tee box angles and plays over one of the hazards. The green is wide but not very deep so controlling the distance is important.

I thought the course was in surprisingly good shape for a play during the summer. Walkways from the tees to the greens were mowed and the tees were cut short. The greens are small and rolled well at a medium pace.

For the right crowd I’d certainly recommend Westdale Hills as I found it to be a fun-to-play course with some charm.
