Wolf Run Golf Club was the next course up on my Northern Nevada golf weekend. I played one of the courses at nearby ArrowCreek Country Club yesterday and the views of the surrounding snow-covered mountains and Washoe Valley were stunning. Wolf Run is a few minutes from ArrowCreek, so it offers thee same scenery.
I played the black tees (73.1/133/7100) on a cold and windy day. Wolf Run has the nice scenery of a desert course, but thankfully it doesn’t have many of the punishing characteristics that you’d find at a true desert course. Compared to ArrowCreek yesterday, Wolf Run has less target golf and there isn’t as much desert in play.
The course has some minor elevation changes – a club at most – and requires some strategy off the tee. There are a number of hazards that cut across the fairways and some slopes which feed the ball one way or the other. I thought that the course was fair and that it had some good golf holes. The greens were quite challenging to putt.

I thought the par-3’s at Wolf Run were the standout holes. The 7th is a 230 yards which was extra tricky because of the desert, which partially obstructs the view of the green. The 14th is 218 yards and plays over a gully. It is framed by mountains in the background. The final stretch of closing holes is pretty solid too.
Regarding the conditions, the course was in good shape for the beginning of the season. It played firm and fast. The greens had been aerated recently, but rolled quicker than they looked. For $40, I have zero complaints.
Overall, Wolf Run turned out to be a great pick and a course that I’d like to play again on a warm, sunny day. It was fairly pleasant to play for the first time and I enjoyed the layout. Apparently the University of Nevada golf teams play out here, and I can see why.
