A friend of mine lives in Citrus Hills, actually not far from one of the greens here at Skyview at Terra Vista. He set up a tee time for us and another Virginia golf friend of ours to play here on Sunday.
Like many communities in Florida, there is more than one course in the community of Citrus Hills. There is the Oaks Course, Meadows Course and then Skyview at Terra Vista – which is the community’s top course. I haven’t played the other two yet but they are on my long list!
We had a late morning tee time ($45 I think) on what turned out to be a picture-perfect Florida day! It ended up being about 80 degrees with a mix of sun and clouds – wonderful.

As I mentioned, Skyview is the community’s best golf course. And, that is reflected by the great conditions we found here! Everything was in mint shape. The overseed was full, lush and easy to hit from. The same with the tees.
The greens were recently re-done, about six month ago I believe. So, they need some time to mature as they are very firm right now. Once they soften all will be well! As things stand now, the greens wouldn’t hold anything – although they rolled smoothly and at a medium.
It was evident that Skyview was designed for member play. By that I mean there is tons of width and very little lost ball trouble! Plus, I found the breaks in the greens to be more minor. Skyview is one of those courses where I think the greatest challenge will be its length. I played the blue tees which are 72.0/129/6669. However, it can stretch over 7,100 yards.

When it comes to signature holes, I enjoyed the par-3 5th and par-5 6th. The 5th plays 189 yards over water. While the hole is surrounded by homes, the green complex sits in a hillside and offers a great look. The 6th is a reachable par-5 that climbs uphill and has a sea of bunkers. All those bunkers and a depression on the left half of the fairway create plenty of options.
As the name indicates there are some good views at “Skyview”, mostly from the 8th tee box where you can look out across Florida’s Nature Coast. The 8th tee sits at a high point and you can see probably 10 to 20 miles on a clear day.
Skyview turned out to be a good course to enjoy the company of my friends. It isn’t a destination course, but if you are visiting the area then it is a solid value option that won’t beat you up too bad!
